Volunteer Opportunities

Each NJHS member at PACT is required to participate in the group service projects and complete a minimum of 10 service hours outside of school per school year. You can find the volunteer hours verification form on the Forms page.

Anoka County Online has a list of organizations that are always looking for volunteers.

Other volunteer opportunities in our school and community: ​
  •  Anoka County Library: Talk to a librarian about "volunteen" opportunities at libraries in Anoka county (Anoka, Coon Rapids, Blaine, Andover).  
  • Hope 4 Youth: Help out the homeless youth of Anoka County by serving meals, cleaning, or mentoring (Anoka) 
  • The Farmstead: Volunteer to visit with residents, play bingo, assist with events, etc. and serve the elderly (Andover) 
  • Rise: Work with people with disabilities by sorting clothes, helping with an art program, or being a lunch pal (Spring Lake Park) 
  • Hope for the Community: Serve meals (Blaine)

  • Read Indeed: Donate books and/or volunteer to sort books to send to kids around the world (Hopkins)
  • ​Project Linus: Make blankets for kids with terminal illness (various locations in the Twin Cities)
  • Open Arms of Minnesota: Help cook or deliver nutritious meals to people with life-threatening illnesses in the Twin Cities
  • Feed My Starving Children: Pack meals for schools, orphanages, clinics, and feeding programs around the world (various locations)
  • Second Harvest Heartland: Volunteer or donate at a food bank or distribution center (various locations) 
  • Salvation Army: Try your hand at bell ringing, serving meals, volunteering with toy drives, etc. (various locations)

  • Books for Africa: Donate or volunteer to help provide books to African schools (warehouse in St. Paul)
  • Sole Hope: Many ways to help through an organization that provides jobs and medical relief in impoverished communities

Definition of Volunteer Service
Volunteer service is defined as an altruistic activity where an individual or group provides services for no financial gain. 
For PACT NJHS purposes, the following counts toward volunteer hours: 
  • Volunteering (non-paid, helpful activity) during non-school hours
  • Volunteering with a non-profit organization​
For PACT NJHS purposes, the following DO NOT count toward volunteer hours: 
  • Any activity during class time or school hours
  • Helping immediate or extended family (move, garden, etc.) 
  • Fundraising for a team or activity
  • Participation in extracurricular activities or sports
  • Meetings that prepare you for volunteering
  • Assisting with projects at your own home
